Spring is a lovely season, with the mornings getting lighter, and longer afternoons in the sunshine. It is a great time to be out fishing! Here are my tips for getting the most out of your springtime fishing season.
Firstly, try to get out on the water as much as possible. There is a good saying that even the worst day of fishing is better than not fishing at all! You should be mindful of the weather forecasts at this time of year, checking particularly for any unusually warm sunny days.
Be aware that the water is colder at this time of year, so fish are generally much more sluggish than other times. It is worth trying smaller lures and taking more time to allow the fish to take the lure before setting the hook.
Keep an eye out for the sun whilst you are out, as brighter sun will quickly warm the water in the shallows which will attract more fish.
